Plastic Pollution in the Local Marine Environment
April 26, 2018, 7:00pm
Join us April 26 to hear Darrel Ferguson, a core member, staff and volunteer of the Surfrider Foundation, speak about how for over a decade the Surfrider Foundation as well as many other environmental organizations have become aware of the ubiquitous presence of plastic particles in the ocean and its inhabitants. Over 40 years ago we knew plastic was becoming a threat to marine life in the form of entanglement, but only recently have we become aware of its threat to marine life as something ingested. We now suspect that the greatest harm by plastic is the fact that it can make dead zones by blocking out sunlight to phytoplankton. What can we do to help?
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how you can help reduce the impacts of plastics in the marine environment. Presentation begins at 7:00pm. Free for members, $15 for non-members. Reservations are required by April 24 to Shannon Clafford at email@example.com.
